Quick answer

SEO is not a magic ranking trick; it is a combination of technical foundations, content and measurement. A prioritised, practical plan for small businesse…

The most common SEO misconception is expecting a few technical fixes to reach the top quickly. In reality, SEO combines technical health, content that matches search intent and consistent measurement. For small businesses with limited resources, prioritisation matters most.

This plan orders the priorities for your first 90 days.

1. Measure where you stand

Record the starting point before changing anything:

  • Add the site to Google Search Console; review indexed pages and queries.
  • Define form, phone and WhatsApp clicks as events in Google Analytics 4.
  • Export the titles and descriptions of existing pages into a sheet.
  • Note which channels brought enquiries over the last six months.

SEO without measurement is spending money without knowing what works.

2. Technical foundations: speed, indexing and mobile

Technical problems cap rankings no matter how good the content is. In the first 30 days, check:

  1. Indexability: Do robots.txt and meta robots tags block important pages?
  2. Sitemap: Is sitemap.xml current and submitted to Search Console?
  3. Speed: Are images compressed? Are unnecessary scripts loading?
  4. Mobile: Can menus, forms and phone links be used one-handed?
  5. Duplicates: Does the same page open at multiple addresses? Is the canonical correct?
  6. Broken links: Are internal links returning 404 fixed?

Investing heavily in content before this list is complete is like filling a leaking bucket.

3. Keyword plan: intent first

A keyword list is not a volume ranking. Group every term by search intent:

IntentExamplePage type
Informational“how to build an online store”Blog article
Comparison“custom software vs off-the-shelf”Comparison content
Service“web design agency in Bursa”Service page
Brand“Kalenet contact”Contact page

For small businesses, the best opportunity is usually low-volume, high-intent local search. Long-tail terms such as “corporate website development in Bursa” bring more qualified enquiries than a generic “web design” term.

4. Page-level content plan

Create a separate page for each significant service. Explaining everything on one “services” page tells search engines nothing about which page covers what.

Use this structure on each page:

  • A single H1 and an opening paragraph that matches intent.
  • Subheadings covering process, scope and deliverables.
  • Real examples, screenshots or case notes.
  • FAQs and a clear call to action.
  • Internal links to related pages.

5. Local SEO

If you serve customers physically, a Google Business Profile can be the fastest-working part of SEO. Keep address, phone and opening hours identical to the website. Ask customers for genuine reviews and respond to them. Build location-specific service pages, but do not copy the same text for every district.

6. Content calendar

A blog exists to answer pre-purchase questions, not only to attract traffic. Two quality articles a month beat ten repetitive ones. Choose topics from real customer questions: how is pricing set, how long does the process take, which integrations are needed?

7. Measure and improve

At the end of 90 days, compare:

  • Impressions and clicks in Search Console.
  • Form and WhatsApp enquiries from organic traffic.
  • Which pages are approaching the top 10.
  • Which pages get high impressions but low clicks (titles and descriptions may need work).

SEO is not a project but an ongoing practice. Build the technical base, produce content around real questions and measure every month.
